Joe Benacci love’s three things his family his country and his bike! He was born and raised in Erie. He is 48 years old and joined the Army Reserves at the age 18 and continued on serving his country for 21 years. He retired as a First Sergeant of the 542nd Quartermaster Company stationed in Erie. He’s been married for 25 years to his wonderful wife Sandy and they have a beautiful 19 year old daughter Alex who has just finished her first year at Slippery Rock University. Joe’s unit was one of the first to deploy to Uzbekistan and Afghanistan after September 11th. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his outstanding service while deployed. Joe was honored that he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom not only for himself, but for his family, his country, and especially for all of the families and heroes of September 11th that lost their lives that horrific day. Since then he has continued to serve his country as an advocate for veterans. He is very active with the VFW Post as a board member. Joe is a true patriot who has served his entire career in the army with distinction and a great family man and role model he is a true American hero. Given the opportunity to participate in the Flight 93 Memorial ride would give Joe the honor to recognize those who lost their life that day. Lastly he would like to thank Jen Benacci for taking the time to nominate him.
